French

“Learning a language makes our minds stronger and more flexible. Actually using it gives us an entirely new experience of the world!” (John Cleese)

We are Linguists

Our vision is to teach French to all children in Key Stage 2 in a fun and interactive way as part of a learning experience. We aim to give the children a love of learning languages and to foster an understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity. Children will learn to communicate in a language other than their own enabling them to draw comparisons between languages.

How we learn French

French is taught as a Modern Foreign Language in Years 3 and 4. The children learn key words and phrases through songs, games and activities. Children are given opportunities to practise their oral, written and reading skills in French throughout the week. We aim to give children a love of learning languages and to gain a better understanding of another culture by making language learning fun and engaging.

Assessment

Teachers monitor progress of children in Year 3 and 4 throughout the year using the Language Ladders. These are passed onto Brewood Middle School for their next steps in Language learning.

FRENCH FOOD TASTING

During our Food for thought topic launch the children all took part in tasting different kinds of food they might eat as a child in France.  The crepes were a particular favourite as were the carambar!

Bonjour!

In Swans class the children have been learning to meet and greet each other. Watch these videos to hear them having a conversation. What do you think they are saying?
