Over the past few weeks we have been exploring the topic of 'The Jungle'. We have launched the DEMS (Development of Early Motor Skills) programme with the children and they have been going on a 'Jungle Journey'. This programme promotes early fine and gross motor development. In PE we have been travelling and exploring animal movements. We found an explorers suitcase and talked about the objects inside and how they might be used in the jungle. In maths, we have been exploring one more and one less and number bonds to five. We read the story 'Walking through the Jungle'. We used the story to create our own story maps and then used these to write jungle stories. In our creative curriculum, we looked at work by the artist Henri Rousseau. The children used this artwork as a stimulus for their own. They drew animals and printed leaves, then thought of ways to enhance their work further. We have been researching jungle facts using the children's questions as starting points.
