‘The best classroom and the richest cupboard is roofed only by the sky’
Margaret McMillan
Our vision for outdoor learning is for children to have hands on experiences through which they can develop their understanding and application of our school values and successful learning skills. It aims to help children to develop a love of the outdoors and the natural environment whilst nurturing their social and emotional well-being, self- confidence, self- esteem, learning capacity, enthusiasm, communication and problem solving skills. All outdoor learning is planned around the curriculum, which gives depth, enrichment and an outdoor perspective for our children. Outdoor learning brings the benefits of formal and informal education together and reinforces meaningful learning through acquiring knowledge and skills through real-life, practical and hand-on activities.
Being outdoors, especially in a green space or woodland setting, brings positive health benefits for every individual. Outdoor Learning allows children to be physically active and builds stamina. Their experiences can also lead them to make healthier life choices by taking trips to the woodlands and green spaces outside school times with their family. Children gain confidence and improve their self-esteem which has a massive impact on their emotional and mental well-being.
