Hello and welcome to Doves Class,
We hope you are looking forward to starting school and have had fun over the summer holidays. We are very much looking forward to seeing you. I am sure you will have lots of questions so below we have tried to predict what those questions may be and try to answer them.
What time do I come to school and where do I go to?
Your arrival time will be from 8:45. At 8.55 the gates will be locked. You will need to enter the school through the black gate opposite Brewood Middle School, then through the Doves Class gate on a morning and walk down to the classroom. Dismissal will be from the Doves Class door. The Doves Class gate will be opened at 3:15 and parents will then make their way to the classroom door. Please be patient as we dismiss the children, it takes a little bit of time to make sure every child is safely dismissed to the adult who is collecting them. If you need to speak to staff, please wait until all children have been dismissed. Thank you.
What do I need to bring?
As little as possible. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BRING A RUCKSACK OR ANY ADDITIONAL BAGS.
Each day you will need to bring:
- A school bookbag
- Water bottle – this must only be filled with water – NO JUICE OR FLAVOURED WATER PLEASE
- Coat (weather dependent)
- Reading Pack (once it has been given out in school)
In addition:
-Please bring a spare set of clothes, ideally a white t-shirt, navy trousers/joggers/leggings or school skirt, underwear and a pair of socks. Please put these in an A4 document wallet/folder and label clearly with your child’s name. These will be kept in school.
-Special Boxes: As previously discussed, it would be lovely if the children could each bring into school a box (possibly shoe box sized) which can be decorated. Inside you could put in some photographs or objects which tell us a little about you. You might like to add pictures of your family/friends, a favourite book, clue to a hobby or activity that you like to do. The boxes will remain in school (so please don’t put in anything too precious!) Then we will take in in turns to share the boxes in class with all of your new friends and we can learn more about each other.
-The children DO NOT NEED a PE kit at this point in the year; we will let you know further details later in the school year.
-Lunch will be provided by school either a hot meal or sandwiches. Please do not bring a packed lunch.
-The children DO NOT need a snack from home; there will be the option of a fruit/vegetable snack in school. Free milk is provided until your child turns 5 years old and then you have the option to pay after this time.
What about PE?
The children will have access to the early years outdoor area and regular physical challenges daily, so we kindly ask that long hair is tied back, and no jewellery is worn. Once settled they will begin PE sessions, where they will initially just remove their shoes and socks. PE kits are not required until later in the school year and we will let you know more details nearer to the time.
What will happen at playtime and lunchtime?
Our playtime will be 10:35am and our MUGA and adventure equipment day will be on Mondays. Our lunchtime will be from 11.55am until 1:00pm. We will eat our lunch in the school hall and then play outside. Our lunchtime supervisor is Mrs Wootton.
Who will be my teachers and what will the classroom be like?
Your teachers will be Mrs Kendrick and Mrs Hume. You can see pictures of us on the link page. Your teaching assistants will be Mrs Hopkins, Miss Alcock and Mrs Dudley. There are pictures of the classroom on the link page.
We hope this answers some of your questions. You will feel a little nervous and that is completely understandable, but we will do our best to help you to feel comfortable and happy.
Mrs Kendrick and Mrs Hume
