Merit Assembly (Friday 9:05)

All parents are very welcome to come and join us for Merit Assembly on a Friday whether your child is receiving a merit or not. You will be informed by SchoolApp message if your child is receiving a merit. If children have received certificates outside school they can be presented at Merit Assembly. Please bring them into school during the week and give to the class teachers. If you wish to attend Merit assembly please come in through the hall door on Friday morning.

Children who have been awarded learning tickets will have a chance to win a prize in the weekly draw. This is drawn during Friday morning in the classroom.

House point totals for the week are announced by the house captains during merit assembly. This year the winning house each half term will be able to wear non-school uniform on the last day of term. We will let you know if that is your child’s house at the beginning of that week.

Absences

If your child is unable to attend school then notification is required by 9:00am by a phone call (message left on the absence line)

Please report absence each day.

If there is no notification it is classed as an unauthorised absence and further action may need to be taken to check the child is safe.

No child is allowed out of school during the day unless accompanied by an authorised adult.

We strongly encourage the children not to be withdrawn from school during term time for family holiday. This causes a disruption to their learning. Term time leave is only authorised in exceptional circumstances.

Every effort should be made for medical appointments to be made out of school time but if this is not possible, we will need proof of the appointment to authorise the absence.

Medicines

If your child is obviously unwell, please keep them away from school. Normally, if a child needs medicine as prescribed by the doctor, the child should not be at school until they have fully recovered. If it is essential for prescribed medicine to be brought into school, then it must be in its original container and an authorisation form will need to be completed stating the correct dosage and frequency. The medicines must be handed in at the school office. Calpol or any other non-prescribed medication cannot be administered in school-by-school staff.

School Uniform

We feel that it is important that the children identify with the school so that there is a feeling of belonging and pride in our school.  Please ensure all uniform is named so it can be quickly returned to the correct owner if it goes astray!

Jewellery/Hair

No jewellery should be worn in school at any time. If your child has their ears pierced – only plain studs should be worn. Please ensure the earrings are removed on PE/swimming days. We strongly encourage that if your child wishes to have their ears pierced this should be done at the beginning of the summer holidays. Hair needs to be tied back everyday.

Hair braiding, nail varnish and tramlines are not to be worn in school.

Food and Drink

Healthy eating is promoted in school. Children are only allowed to drink water in class. At play times there is milk and toast available via a token scheme or fresh/dried fruit or vegetable can be brought in for a snack.

Some children in school have serious allergies including nuts so do not send any products into school that contain nuts particularly hazelnuts eg Nutella, kinder, cereal bars etc. Children are told not to share food.

PE Days

Years 1-4, during the Autumn and Summer term the children can come to school in their PE kits on their PE days. These are detailed below. In the Spring term we ask that shorts and t-shirt are provided. These are kept in school and children get changed into their kit on PE days.

Parent Consultations

We have a Parent Information meeting at the beginning of the Autumn Term, an opportunity for individual parent/teacher consultations in October and during the spring term. Settling in, interim and end of year reports are sent out during the year. If at any time you wish to see your child’s teacher or the headteacher, do not hesitate to make an appointment to see them. Similarly, if a teacher needs to inform you of anything they will be in contact with you promptly.

Allergies

See above in food and drink. Also, please do not bring dogs onto the playground.
