AIM HIGH BELIEVE, FLY HIGH ACHIEVE

Monday

Today we are learning the new trigraph - air.

Practise recall and formation of some of the phonemes already learned (select up to 10 from the list below), especially the new digraphs and trigraphs - s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k, ck, e, u, r, h, b, f, f, l, ll, ss, j, v, w, x, y, z, qu, sh, ch, th, ng, ai, ee, igh, oa, oo, ar, or, ur, ow, oi, ear. Say the sound and ask your child to write it from memory (although they may use a sound mat for support if needed).

Sing the alphabet song and ask your child to point to the letters as they are sang.

Introduce the phoneme air and practise forming the trigraph joining the letters if possible.

Play 'Buried Treasure'. Ask your child to say the sounds in each word and blend them together, then decide if it is a real word or a pretend word: air, hair, pair, hear, fear, year, gair, sair, kair, kear, zeard.

Read the sentences containing the 'air' sound. Look for tricky words and digraphs before reading.
