AIM HIGH BELIEVE, FLY HIGH ACHIEVE

Wednesday 24th June 2020

Hello Everyone,

Hot day forecast so please be careful. Well I can not believe we are half way through the week again. Half way through the working week means it must be......? If the weather is hot, hot, hot are we in winter? What month are we in? Gosh what a lot of time related questions. Can you answer them all?

English: Today we are going to structure a fantasy story using a story plan. Draw, label or add key words  in the correct boxes but please NO sentences today. From our story'Room on the Broom', who is the main character? Where does the story take place? What was happening at the beginning of the story. What was the problem? How was it solved? How did the story end? When the story is complete practise retelling it using your plan. Can you link events using your time vocabulary? Before, after, next then...

Spellings: Today we are going to learn how a prefix can change the meaning of a word. If a suffix gets added to the end of a word, where do you think a prefix goes? Look at a smiley face and a sad face. Can you think of two words that are similar to describe the faces? (Hopefully happy and unhappy will be suggested) How are those words the same/different? Work through the powerpoint to find other words that you can change in the same way.

Maths: Today we are going to learn how to read, spell and order the months of the year and link them to the correct season. Talk about the season (there is a powerpoint). How is each season different? Think about weather, clothes, key events, length of the day etc. Which months are linked to the seasons? Order the months of the year and draw the appropriate symbol to denote the season by the side. Challenge- Which is the 8th month of the year? Which is the 3rd month...?

Topic: Today we are going to learn why certain  habitats suit certain animals. Start with the question what is a habitat? What does a habitiat have to do? Who can think of different habitats around the world where animals life. (powerpoint) Which animal would I find in the jungle/desert/river? There is a power point or you can use BBC bitesize KS1 animal habitats. Then complete the activity. Draw the animal that would live in each habitat. Explain what a habitiat has to do.

Finish the day with some quiet reading.

I will speak to you all tomorrow. Don't forget if you are learning at home send mesome pictures so that I can see how you are getting on.

Take care.

Mrs Lloyd
